The Muqlawi provides you with the complete set of implements to get started in Arabic calligraphy. With pens from 1mm to 15mm wide, all scripts, sizes, and compositional styles can be created with the Muqlawi.
The Muqlawi includes 8 pens. The smallest nib is the java reed, for nesih or tashkeel, a small, a medium and a large a small kamish pen, a small, medium and a large bamboo pen, and an extra large 15mm wood pen, all cut and ready to write. The 4oz dropper bottle of lamp black calligraphy ink and glass inkwell with silk likka keep the right amount of ink on your pen and your work area spill-free. The stand keeps the set organized on your desk, and you have a horn makta to cut your pens on.
Keeping your pens sharp is a crucial component of the process. With a three-bladed knife (which can also be used for ink corrections and erasing) and a horn makta to cut on, you can easily maintain your pens' writing quality.
In addition to 100 sheets of white calligraphy paper, also included is 50 sheets of our hand-dyed cream paper, for your final compositions.
