Mahmud Celaleddin Calligraphy Muraqqa

$15.00

This stunning muraqqa of Hadith is the product of two incredibly important and influential calligraphers. It was written by one of the greatest of the late Ottoman masters, Mahmud Celâleddîn (d. 1829) and is his teklid, or study-by-copying, of an earlier work by the renowned Hafiz Osman (d. 1698) , one of the most important calligraphers of all time, a figure who changed the course of calligraphy’s history. It is therefore a work of profound skill, study, and calligraphic composition.

It contains eight panels, all in the form of a kitaa, with two lines of Thuluth/Sulus calligraphy and 4-8 lines of Naskh/Nesih script in the middle. All panels are illuminated in the koltuk indentations and bordered with ebru.

Presented in an accordion binding with the original cover. Actual size, 9x6.5”/23x16.5cm.
